30 April 2026 – Hong Kong – Hong Kong-Shenzhen Innovation and Technology Park Limited (“HSITPL”) today announced that Xiamen Hithium Energy Storage, a global leader in energy storage technology, has officially established its presence at HSITP and set up pilot and intelligent production lines at the Park.

The project marks a major step forward in advancing industrial pilot transformation at HSITP. It also reflects the Park’s rapid transition into a new phase of industrial clustering and operational development, providing fresh impetus to Hong Kong’s drive towards new industrialisation and its development as an international innovation and technology (“I&T”) centre.

The launch ceremony was officiated by Professor Sun Dong, Secretary for Innovation, Technology and Industry of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government; Mr. Kevin Choi, Permanent Secretary for Innovation, Technology and Industry and Chairperson of HSITPL; and Dr. Yi Ziqi, Director and Vice President of Hithium and General Manager of Harbour Technology Limited.

HSITPL Chief Executive Officer Mr. Vincent Ma remarked: “Hithium’s establishment of the Park’s first R&D transformation and pilot production base marks a critical step for HSITP in promoting pilot production and new industrialisation. As the Park enters its operational acceleration phase, we are bringing together internationally competitive I&T enterprises and talent to drive deep integration of the innovation and industrial chains. This is also a concrete manifestation of the Development Outline for the Hong Kong Park of the Hetao Shenzhen-Hong Kong Science and Technology Innovation Co-operation Zone, which calls for the development of R&D transformation and pilot production base. It further reinforces the Hong Kong Park’s important role as a cluster for pilot production and transformation within the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (“GBA”). We look forward to enterprises leveraging HSITP as a springboard to connect the GBA with global markets, injecting fresh momentum into Hong Kong’s I&T development.”

Launch of First Energy Storage Pilot Production Line Strengthens New Industrialisation Value Chain

Hithium’s project, supported by the New Industrialisation Vetting Committee under the Innovation and Technology Fund and following its application under the New Industrialisation Acceleration Scheme (NIAS), plans to build a high-capacity energy storage battery production line at HSITP. This advanced manufacturing project involves a total investment exceeding HK$200 million.

Founded in 2019, Hithium specialises in energy storage batteries and related system solutions, with operations spanning more than 20 countries and regions worldwide. The company has been listed among the “Global New Energy Enterprises Top 500” for two consecutive years and ranked second globally in lithium-ion energy storage battery shipments in 2025. At HSITP, Hithium will focus on the research, development, and validation of long-duration energy storage technologies, supporting its subsequent industrialisation.

Facilitating Industrial Clustering and Strengthening the Innovation and Technology Ecosystem

With the progressive entry of representative enterprises and projects, HSITP is transitioning from the construction phase into a rapid development stage of industrial clustering, progressively building a globally competitive innovation and technology ecosystem.

Looking ahead, HSITP will continue to leverage the synergistic advantages of “one river, two banks” and “one zone, two parks” to facilitate pilot production and transformation of research outcomes within the Park. It will also promote the efficient cross-boundary flow of innovation factors—including people, materials, capital, and data—enhancing the innovation and technology ecosystem and supporting Hong Kong’s development into an international innovation and technology centre.
